Open Safari’s search in a new tab

There was nowhere online (albeit I only performed a quick Google search) that I could find saying how to make Safari’s search open in a new tab, so here’s how to do it:

The shortcut to get the the search box is Command + Option + F

Type in your query and then press Command + Return and boom!  Search in a new tab.

Another tweak I like to do is to go into Safari’s Tabs preferences and check “When a new tab or window opens, make it active”.

Pioneer One is pretty much awesome.  It’s an original dramatic series created by Josh Bernhard and Bracey Smith.  The pilot was shot for $6000 and is available for free download via bittorrent.  If you have a free 35 minutes, watch it.  It will be worth your time.

Whenever I have my MacBook Pro out in public I always get complements and comments about my wallpaper.

When it comes to them, I’m a very hard person to please.  Most wallpaper, I can’t stand for more than 15 minutes.  Others, I’ll use others for weeks, sometimes months at a time. 

(The picture atop this post has been my wallpaper for a few weeks now). 

What draws me to it is that it is such a serene place, photographed at the absolute wrong time.  Most people wouldn’t want to be here with an encroaching storm and the construction that is taking place, yet I find it oddly inviting.  The photo seems to be beckoning me into one of the houses on the hilltop.  I find myself wanting to curl up with a hot cup of Earl Grey Bravo and a good book; to spend the afternoon reading and looking out over the ocean.

I love landscape wallpapers, but if you give me a beautiful beach with a cliché sunset I won’t be able to stand it for more than a day.  Give me something like the above, and who knows when I’ll be able to find a picture suitable enough to take its place.

Apple’s HTML5 Overview

To put it simply, it is quite amazing what can be done with pure HTML, no plugins, no Flash.

The last two demos really hit me.  It used to be that Apple had to do that with Quicktime embedded and now it can be done with pure HTML.  I always found it odd that Apple stopped Quicktime’s advanced features, and now it makes sense.
