Which means iOS 5.1.1 is able to be jailbroken untethered on my iPhone 4s, and that my friends, is good news.
Took the plunge
My jailbroken iPhone 4s had been acting up during the past few days. From time to time Alien Blue hadn’t been logging me into my accounts, and Mail would just plain ol’ not work until I rebooted my phone (even a respring didn’t solve these issues).
With these two very annoying problems in mind I decided to bite the bullet and attempt to restore to iOS 5.0.1 (which shouldn’t be possible). To do this I downloaded a copy of Redsn0w 0.9.11b2 and followed this excellent step by step guide over at Redmond Pie. The only other items required to restore to 5.0.1 were the iOS .ipsw files for 5.0.1 and 5.1.1. Once I procured those from this lovely download page at iJailbreak the rest was simple. I just followed those instructions and my phone was restored to iOS 5.0.1 in no time at all!
Needless to say, I’m feeling like a boss.

The new Dacia Sandero! Just kidding, there’s now a way to downgrade the firmware on my iPhone 4s in case I ever completely destroy its software and need to re-jailbreak.
